Georgian stabs a childhood friend and is acquitted

On August 26, the dispute between the two men took place in Bern. The reason: the younger of the two was drunk and stoned. In Buchs, the situation then degenerated. The deceased should have strangled the defendant, after which he unsheathed his Swiss army knife and stabbed the opponent. He died of internal and external bleeding.

"I would give my life for hers"

"If I could go back in time, I would give my life for his," said G. sobbing in court, as reported by the "Aargauer Zeitung". Because the two men had already been friends in childhood and had gathered in Switzerland.

The prosecutor asked the Georgian man a ten-year prison sentence and a fifteen-year national referral sentence. Attorney Hans Frey was of the opinion that the Würgeverletzungen did not threaten life. The defender argued in favor of the acquittal because, in his opinion, it was self-defense.

The president of the court, Reto Leiser, justified his defense. "You do not have to show bleeding to act in self-defense, and in the defendant's case, the chamois were clearly visible," he said. In addition, the mortal wounded was physically superior to the 38-year-old because of his experience of judo and his military knowledge.
