More than 7,820 francs per month: that is what half of Zurich earned in 2016, the other half earned less than what is called the median wage. This resulted in the survey on the salary structure of the city of Zurich. The inhabitants of Zurich earn CHF 1,300 more than the median Swiss salary of CHF 6,500.
According to the survey, a quarter of Stadtzürcher earns more than CHF 10,000, another quarter under CHF 6,000 per month. The salary level depends mainly on training, as the figures show. Employees without vocational training earn an average of 4600 francs, whatever their age. On the other hand, university graduates earn about 13,700 francs at the end of their career, twice as many as those who start their careers. "The level of education is therefore not only central to wage levels, but also to wage developments," the statisticians write. In addition to employees with a university degree, high salaries also included managers (CHF 10,538) and employees in the financial sector (CHF 10,949).

Foreigners over 50 years old more often without education
Wage differences are wage differences by survey in the 40 to 64 age group. This is due to different levels of education. Thus, Swiss women and foreigners are much less educated than Swiss men. Of the Swiss over 50 who work in Zurich, 21.3% have a university degree.
For the Swiss of this age group, it is only half
(9.8%), among foreigners 11%.
Data from the Swiss Federal Survey
The Loss Structure Survey (LSE) is conducted every two years by the Federal Statistical Office through a direct survey of enterprises. The City of Zurich dataset contains information on about 213,000 people working in the city of Zurich. Monthly gross wages, including social security contributions, commissions, 1/12 of the 13th monthly salary and 1/12 of annual bonuses, are compared to a full-time job.
