Judge João Gebran Neto has arrested the release of the former Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for the time being. Police should not put the 72-year-old man at liberty before considering the case, the judge said Sunday.
Previously, a federal judge had allowed an application for injunction and ordered the immediate release of the head of state. There is no legal basis for his detention and Lula can wait for appeal against his verdict at liberty, he said in the ruling.
