Long model cycles are not Mazda's thing, but a beautiful design language. The result celebrates its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show (November 30 to December 9, 2018): the all-new Mazda 3. Two bodies are in the spotlight: the five-door car important for Europe and the rear sedan, so important for markets like the United States.
Regarding the future aspect of Mazda 3, like the recent Mercedes with the A-Class: the basic proportions remain about the same but the body is visibly tightened. What does it mean in terms of number? The sedan is quite different: it increases considerably from 4.58 to 4.66 meters, but the width and the height remain practically unchanged. The new Mazda 3 is the brand's first production model to take advantage of the improved coding design of the RX-Vision (2015) and Vision Coupe (2017) studies.
Let's look inside: the shifter (six-speed, manual or automatic) was positioned higher and closer to the driver. Thanks to the adjustable steering column in the direction of the length, it has more than 20 millimeters of margin of maneuver. Other innovations include differently arranged cupholders and an elongated central armrest. In addition to the redesigned instruments, an 8.8-inch screen, operated by a rotary knob, is located on the center console. In the engines, Mazda relies on proven and revolutionary technologies: the gasoline portfolio includes Skyactiv G units with a capacity of 1.5 and 2.0 liters. The performance is still silent, in view of the MX-5 but would be 132-184 ch conceable. The old 3 were 100, 120 and 165 bhp on offer.

This helps a mild hybrid system, which is also offered for the conventional gasoline engine in the new 3. In all engines, the Mazda 3 should be particularly well insulated.
On request, a four-wheel drive transmission is available, its friction losses must be reduced by more than 60%.
