W iesbaden (dpa / lhe) – Even in summer, there is almost as much TBE in Hesse as there is all year. The viral disease is transmitted by ticks. According to the Hesse Ministry of Social Affairs, 18 cases were reported on 24 July. In the whole of 2017, there were 20, the year before 21.

However, in the opinion of the Ministry "in principle, no significant increase in TBE reports ", as spokesman Markus Büttner said: not if ticks are still so active. On the other hand, not all reported cases have withstood a laboratory review. If they are eliminated, only 14 infections remain.

Meningoencephalitis (TBE) early in the summer can lead to inflammation of the brain. More common than TBE is also transmitted by Borreliosis ticks. However, there is no obligation to register in Hesse
