This is the second time in 436 days of negotiations that Beate Zschäpe in the NSU trial in the Higher Regional Court of Munich speaks: At the end of the evidence, the 43-year-old woman has her last words on the far right scene. The ideology of right does not make sense to them.
The Federal Public Prosecutor considers Zschäpe to be an accomplice to the crimes of the right-wing terrorist organization "National Socialist Underground" (NSU) – and has applied for life imprisonment with pre-trial detention. Both Zschäpe defense teams consider her as innocent for the killings and the attacks.
"Please, do not judge me in the name of something that I have neither wanted nor done," Zschäpe said. With Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt, she should have belonged to the NSU.
Zschäpe: I do not know how the victims were selected
In his personal conclusion, Zschäpe said that she had no idea why the two authors chose their victims on different crime scenes. The defenders of Zschäpe have also been charged differently from other NSU offenses: their three original public defenders consider only one penalty for simple arson, their two defenders at most ten years in prison for helping to many raids.
Also Ralf Wohlleben, Holger G. and Carsten S. want to say their last words in the process. The accused André E., however, had announced that he wanted to waive this right of the accused. After the last words, the OLG State Security Senate, chaired by Judge Manfred Götzl on Wednesday, July 11 wants to pronounce the verdict on the alleged right-wing terrorist and his co-accused . The trial has been going on for more than five years.
According to investigators, Mundlos and Böhnhardt fired and shot at ten people and carried out two explosive attacks in almost 14 years when the trio lived underground. The motive was in almost all cases xenophobia. A murder victim was a policewoman in Heilbronn. The NSU trial will clarify the culpability of Zschäpe and the co-defendants. Mundlos and Böhnhardt were kidnapped in 2011.
