The winter is cold. On average two to four times a year, adults have a cold, small children even up to ten times a year. Cold is one of the most common diseases in Switzerland. Reena explains why we catch a cold and what we can do about it.
The cause of the cold is a small virus that enters our body through the respiratory tract. They multiply in the nose, throat and bronchi of our lungs. Who sneezes, throws his viruses several meters in the air and thus infects other people. Even if we shake hands with our counterpart, a cold can spread.
However, we are not at the mercy of a cold. Our immune system, an endogenous defense system, forms a barrier against viruses as long as there are not many at the same time. If this is the case, we get sick and we present the typical symptoms: chills, sore throat and runny nose. If we also have severe chills, high fever, body aches and a cough, it can be a flu. It can take up to 14 days and sometimes even dangerous.
When you catch a cold, it is best to rest so that the immune system can defend the virus well. Drinking enough tea or water helps the immune system. Pellets also relieve coughs and sore throats
