Last night, a man waited at the Lower Rheinweg in Basel – when a stranger was stabbed from behind. The Swiss, aged 22, was seriously injured and was taken by taxi to the emergency room.
Friday night at 19:30, a 22-year-old man was injured in Basel, in the Lower Rhine, near the Dreirosenbrücke.
According to initial findings, the Swiss had made an appointment at the Unteren Rheinweg, reports cantonal police in Basel. In the meantime, he was suddenly badly injured by a stranger from behind with a stabbed weapon. As the victim fell to the ground, the culprit escaped without being recognized in the direction of Dreirosenanlage.
The victim then went by taxi to the emergency room. "He was operated on during the night," said Criminal Commissioner René Gsell. The man is out of danger. "But if he had not reacted so well, it could have ended badly," says Gsell.
The exact sequence of the crime and the reason for the bodily harm have not been clarified and have been investigated. The mobile and the identity of the authors are still totally unknown. "We hope the victim can give us a hint or suspicion," Gsell said. The 22-year-old was only able to make his first statements on Friday night and had not been questioned yet. The police are looking for witnesses. (Rey)
