"Aktenzeichen XY … unresolved" is devoted to a special program devoted to three criminal cases, which gave the authorities years of riddles. It is only after the broadcast of the Fahndungsklassikers that they could be solved.
His outrages shook Germany in the 1990s. Between 1994 and 1998, serial murderer Frank Gust murdered four women. Especially in the region of Rhine-Ruhr was then pure horror. Gust placed the bodies of his victims severely mutilated and partially eviscerated in conspicuous places. The tabloids missed the name "Rhein-Ruhr-Ripper".

The fact that the murderer could be tried in September 2000 also gave rise to a report published at the time by Aktenzeichen XY … unresolved. Other testimonies after the broadcast of ZDF have brought the police on the trail of the skilled roofer. The testimony of a friend of Gust's mother remained decisive for his arrest. She eventually drew the attention of the police on the serial killer. Gust is currently serving a life sentence with subsequent preventive detention.
In a special issue of "Aktenzeichen XY" from Wednesday, November 28 at 20:15 on ZDF, presenter Rudi Cerne will once again sum up the spectacular case and the story of a successful survey success . With criminal psychologist Lydia Benecke, he explains how a person can become a serious serial killer and what influence the "case number" has had on the case's solution.

In other feature films, Cerne and Benecke focus on two other crimes that could also be solved with the help of the classic ZDF-Fahndung.
