A few seconds after taking off, a private rocket exploded in flames in northern Japan. The false start of the Momo-2 was produced Saturday in the city of Taiki. The rocket was to be launched in the space up to 100 kilometers.

The television footage showed the ten-meter rocket taking off from its launch pad, then falling to the ground and rising into a fireball.

The President of Interstellar Technologies is excused for the breakdown. The missile probably had a fault in the main engine, said Takahiro Inagawa. His team will undergo a fault analysis on the remaining parts of the rocket.

Interstellar Technologies began in 2005 as a project of Japanese businessman Takafumi Horie. The goal was to develop a relatively small, lightweight and cost-effective rocket that would send satellites into space.
