The Prime Minister of Haiti resigned after protests against the increase in fuel prices
PORT-AU-PRINCE. The Haitian Prime Minister has resigned following persistent criticism of an unpopular decision to raise gas prices.

He accepted the resignation of Jack Guy Lafontant and his cabinet, wrote Saturday Haitian President Jovenel Moise (Local Time) on Twitter. He wanted to thank Lafontant and the cabinet members for their service to the nation, said Moses. Lafontant had advanced his resignation by a vote of no confidence in the lower house of Parliament
Price increases of 38% for gasoline and 47% for diesel and 51% for kerosene had provoked riots in several cities. in which at least four people died. Barricades of burning tires had been erected at Porte-au-Prince. Shops were looted, cars burned. The country's airports were closed. The government then withdrew the price increase.
Even before the conflict over fuel prices, Lafontant had been politically depressed. Political newcomers had vainly sought patience from the people so that his government could "implement a vision, a clear program".
Haiti is considered the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The Caribbean is largely dependent on foreign aid, and corruption and violence are widespread. The population suffers from mass unemployment and has experienced an inflation rate of more than 13% for three years.
