A new COVID-19 symptom has emerged as a result of the delta variant of the coronavirus.

Several doctors told WFLA, a subsidiary of NBC, that their COVID-19 patients were suffering from a new symptom due to their COVID-19 infection: earaches.

• “People think they have a common earache or ear infection, but end up testing positive for COVID,” according to Yahoo Life.

Indeed, Dr Nicole Frommann, medical director of TGH Urgent Care in Florida, told WFLA that the earache symptom makes the delta variant very different from the alpha variant.

• “The reason we see earaches more often is that the sore throat is so bad (with the delta variant) and the earache is (from) the sore throat,” Frommann said.

• Frommann said the earache problem is “usually associated with other symptoms, especially a sore throat.”

What are the other symptoms of delta variant?

Dr George Monks, a doctor and volunteer teacher at the University of Oklahoma, said his COVID-19 patients have reported different symptoms because of the delta, as I wrote for the Deseret News.

• “The delta variant has slightly different symptoms compared to the original virus,” he wrote on Twitter. “You may not have the loss of taste (and) smell. The delta variant could cause problems like cough, shortness of breath, fever, body aches, congestion, etc. Please get tested if you have any.

Jonathan Leizman, chief medical officer of Premise Health, a healthcare company headquartered in Tennessee, recently told HuffPost that the delta variant has common symptoms.

• “The symptoms are really the same as before. It’s the headache, the cough, the fatigue, the runny nose, the fever – those kinds of generalized flu-like symptoms, ”he said.
