Experts continue to monitor for new symptoms of the coronavirus that have emerged among those who have been infected with the delta variant.
New COVID symptoms appear
Dr David Priest, an infectious disease specialist at Novant Health, told WRIC in Virginia that COVID-19 patients infected with the delta variant of the coronavirus experience more “vague symptoms.”
- These “vague symptoms” include a sore throat and a runny nose.
- The priest said this can be difficult as there has been an increase in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases. And the flu and the common cold are expected to return this fall.
Experts still recommend getting tested for COVID-19 if you have symptoms of the new coronavirus.
- “All three COVID-19 vaccines appear to be resistant to the variant, but experts say the chances of contracting the virus are much lower in a person who is fully vaccinated than in a person who is not,” reports the WRIC.
Main symptoms of COVID-19 after vaccination
The ZOE COVID Symptom study recently updated its list of the main coronavirus symptoms that fully vaccinated people have developed in recent weeks.
As I wrote for the Deseret News, the most common symptoms are:
- Headache
- Runny nose
- sneezing
- Sore throat
- Loss of sense of smell
Researchers said people “should pay attention to the 20 symptoms of the disease whether or not you’ve been vaccinated” when trying to decide if they’ve had COVID-19.
