Charlotte Broussard, 72, resident of Lafayette, was intubated and unable to speak. So she signaled to the nurses that she wanted to write something.
David Begnaud, CBS national correspondent and native of Louisiana, was the first to share images of the patient’s handwritten notes on Twitter.

In an email a few hours later, a representative for Baton Rouge General sent another photo of Broussard, saying she consented to his name, age and image being published.
Hospitals across the state are struggling to cope with an increase in the number of cases amid the fourth and deadliest wave of the pandemic.
Last week, Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes broke a record for the number of people who died from COVID-19 in a single week.
