SAN DIEGO – Students may have been exposed to TB at a college in South Bay, officials said Wednesday.

The potential exposure was reported at Mar Vista Academy, Sweetwater Union High School District, Thermal Avenue, just east of Imperial Beach. Students may have been exposed between February 10th and May 3rd.

San Diego County Health and Social Services will offer free tests on May 28 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm at school.

According to the county, about a third of close contacts with a case of tuberculosis lead to an infection without symptoms, thus putting them at risk of developing the disease.

"Symptoms of active TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, County Public Health Officer. "If you have symptoms of tuberculosis or a problem with your immune system, discuss TB with your doctor and have yourself evaluated."

For more information, call Mar Vista Academy at 619-628-5108 or the County Tuberculosis Program at 619-692-8621.
