Teen from Helotes shares experience of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine trial

HELOTES, Texas – Teenage Helotes girl feels more confident walking out of her home these days after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I’ve been able to go to more places and spend more time with my friends and I don’t like to worry too much,” said Hannah Ross, 14, who participated in a Moderna COVID-vaccine trial. 19 conducted by Tekton Research.

“No one goes anywhere without medical tests. If no one is willing to take a risk, then no one will benefit from the vaccine. And so when she said she wanted to do it, I supported her, ”said Judy Ross, Hannah’s mom.

Hannah received her first vaccine on December 18, unsure whether it was the vaccine or a placebo.

“I had a fever of over 100 years for about two days, then I also had aches, chills and fatigue,” she said.

“The second was just a fever and aches,” she says.

“She has to go there every three months to get a blood test, so they can monitor her antibody levels and see what they’re doing and also get tested for COVID,” Ross said.

Hannah’s parents also received the COVID-19 vaccine.

“We always hide when we go out and we’re still social distanced, but we just don’t have to worry about whether we’re going to get it or give it to someone else,” Judy Ross said. .

Hannah said she was feeling good and doing gymnastics.

“She goes to the gym about 25 hours a week every now and then at competitions,” said Judy Ross.

Hannah’s mother said getting most of the family members vaccinated makes life a lot easier.

“We’re not worried if someone isn’t masked or is standing too close,” said Judy Ross.

Moderna has also started testing its vaccine in children under 12, which include babies as young as six months old. The clinical trial, the KIDCOVE study, will enroll approximately 6,750 children in the United States and Canada.
