(WTHR) – The decision of an Ohio teenager to defy his mother's wishes and get vaccinated after turning 18 makes headlines.
Ethan Lindenberger had never been vaccinated for anything.
So at 18, he decided to see a doctor and get vaccinated. He posted in a thread of the Reddit community hoping to get answers to many of his questions.
"I did not know where to get vaccinated, I did not know the cost," Lindenberger said. "I thought it would be really practical to ask [on Reddit] because it seems that the community knows the answers ".
He also said that his parents thought that vaccines were "a kind of government program". But now that he's old enough, he wanted to have them himself.
His original article had received over 1,000 comments, many of which were supportive and answered his questions.
In a second edition on the wire, he said that he had made his appointment and that his mother was not very happy with him.
"Although my mothers are trying to convince me not to do it and say I'm mad, I know it's something I have to do anyway," he said.
Two months later, he made it official.
"I have finally received my vaccinations," commented Lindenberger.
According to 9News, he has been vaccinated against influenza, HPV, tetanus, hepatitis A and hepatitis B. He also plans to be vaccinated against polio, MMR (measles, rubella and mumps), chicken pox and the second HPV vaccine.
