SINGAPORE – The 16-year-old who suffered a heart attack six days after receiving his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech / Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine will be eligible for one-time financial assistance of $ 225,000.
This will be provided under Singapore’s Vaccine Victim Financial Assistance Program (VIFAP), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Monday (Aug. 16) in a press release.

“Myocarditis was likely a serious adverse event resulting from the COVID-19 vaccine he received, which could have been made worse by his intense weight lifting and high caffeine intake through energy drinks and supplements,” said he declared.
The teenager “is recovering regularly” and is undergoing rehabilitation for hospital patients, the health ministry added.
“He is making good progress and can carry out his activities of daily living without assistance,” he noted, adding that the teenager will likely be out in the coming weeks. However, he will likely also need outpatient rehabilitation for some time before he can return to school and resume other activities.
The medical team will continue treatment and monitor his condition, the health ministry said.

The majority responded well to treatment and recovered or discharged well from hospital, the health ministry said.
Avoid strenuous activities for a week after each dose
He reiterated that all vaccinees, especially adolescents and young men, should avoid strenuous physical activity for a week after each of their first and second doses of the vaccine.
People should also see a doctor promptly if they develop chest pain, shortness of breath, or abnormal heartbeat. People who have developed myocarditis from their first dose of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines should not receive further doses either.
“Vaccination using COVID-19 mRNA vaccines authorized by the Special Pandemic Access Road (PSAR) deployed in our National Immunization Program (NVP) therefore continues to be recommended for all eligible persons. , including adolescents and young men, as the protective benefits of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines continue to outweigh the risks of vaccination, ”the health ministry said.
The ministry added that it, along with the Expert Committee on COVID-19 Vaccination and HSA, “will continue to closely monitor serious vaccine-related adverse events.”
