Telegram messaging platform claims to have had a sharp increase in registrations during a period of unavailability of Facebook's competing courier services.
In a message sent to his Telegram channel, founder founder Pavel Durov just wrote: "I see 3 million new users enrolled in Telegram in the last 24 hours."

A contact at Telegram confirmed to TechCrunch that the downtime of Facebook applications was probably the cause of his latest spike in registration, saying, "These failures always lead to new users."
But they also attributed the growth to "the growing general understanding of Facebook's abusive attention-gathering practices."
