Tesla Model S Plaid hits 1.99 seconds 0-60 mph unprepared on the street

Since Tesla Model S Plaid deliveries began, there has been a lot of talk about the vehicle’s actual performance from 0 to 60 mph. Tesla lists the vehicle with a 0-60 mph time of 1.99 seconds, but this has met with some backlash from automotive reviews and publications.

Motor Trend, in its vehicle tests, mentioned that Tesla essentially wrote its own rules for achieving the Model S Plaid’s listed 0-60 mph time. Indeed, Tesla demanded that the Model S Plaid be launched on a surface prepared by VHT while including the usual deployment of a foot used in drag tracks across the United States and adopted by the National Hot Rod Association. (NHRA).

These conditions essentially placed an asterisk on the Model S Plaid’s acceleration figures. While the car could achieving a 0-60 mph launch in 1.99 seconds, reports suggest that figure would only be possible under very specific conditions. Without these conditions, a Model S Plaid bone stock with no preparations on the street would probably be impressive but not enough as impressive as a car in less than 2 seconds.

A recent video from Tesla owner and drag racing veteran Brooks Weisblat on YouTube DragTimes channel reveals that this is not necessarily the case. After taking delivery of its Model S Plaid, Weisblat quickly made a few test launches on its new Tesla. The results have been remarkable to say the least.

The Tesla Model S Plaid bone stock was able to achieve a 0-60mph time of 1.99 seconds with the usual deployment of one foot. Quarter-mile times were 9.23 seconds at 152.69 mph, according to VBOX and Dragy data. These are incredibly impressive, especially since Weisblat was able to achieve them without any preparation or modification. The Tesla Model S Plaid was not even fully charged during races.

These results would likely not change the minds of the crowd disputing the validity of the Model S Plaid’s 1.99 second 0-60 mph time. However, this debunks the idea that the Model S Plaid requires a deployment of one foot. and a bunch of special conditions to achieve Tesla’s listed acceleration figures for the vehicle. Turns out, all the Plaid really needs to achieve a 0-60mph launch in 1.99 seconds is a little bit of driving and a competent driver.
