HOUSTON – The Texans have signed an extension of a one-year contract for linebacker Brennan Scarlett, the team said Wednesday, placing it under contract with Houston until 2020.
The conditions were not revealed, but the Houston Chronicle announced that the deal amounted to $ 3.75 million. Scarlett is expected to receive a base salary of $ 2.025 million this season after signing his contract with independent agent.
Jadeveon Clowney has not yet signed his franchise contract, so Scarlett began his job as an outside linebacker in the training camp. Whitney Mercilus starts at the other outside location of the linebacker.
Scarlett, 26, played 30 games in his first three seasons with the Texans after signing with Houston as an unregistered free agent at Stanford in 2016. He has an interception, a forced breakaway, two sacks and 54 tackles in his career. He has played both home and away linebacker for Houston and has been a key player in the special teams.
Scarlett has never played a full season in the NFL, spending each season on an injured reserve.
"Scarlett is doing a good job," said defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel. "We can count on him – he's improved since he's had more reps, so I'm expecting a lot of good things from him."
The Miami Dolphins are interested in trading for Clowney and have recently met the smuggler, according to ESPN and several reports.
Clowney met with freshman Brian Flores and other members of the Dolphins organization, who hopes to persuade the triple Bowler Pro to accept an exchange in Miami, according to ESPN and several reports .
