The Longhorns are back on the board with a commitment today of Terrence Cooks. Four-star Pearland, TX prospect Shadow Creek chose Texas over offers from LSU, Georgia, Baylor, Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford and Texas A&M.
The Longhorns were just the fourth program to offer cooks this past November, and Texas won with a thorough and enthusiastic race. Texas Linebacker Coach Coleman hutzler made a difference for the Longhorns as the first-year assistant built a strong relationship with Cooks and his family from the start.
Cooks is the third linebacker in class with New Caney’s Derrick Harris Jr. and Arlington Martin’s Morice Blackwell. Cooks is the ninth four-star prospect to join the class and eighth on the defensive end of the ball. This is the second year in a row that the Longhorns have claimed a victory at Shadow Creek after claiming the 2020 four-star safety Xplane Alford Last year.
Cooks spent his first season at Houston Christian and his second year at Fulshear. In his junior season, Shadow Creek won a 5A-DI State Championship after a 16-0 season. As a junior, Cooks was named the all-district second team to linebacker seeing the spin time in the Shadow Creek defense. During his junior year, Cooks had 72 tackles, 2 tfls and 3 forced fumbles.
Texas is likely finished in linebacker and will now look to finishing the defensive line class and adding to the secondary group if any candidates come forward.
At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, Cooks is ranked 20th among outside linebackers in the country and 46th in Texas, according to 247Sports Composite.

Jaden alexis, three-star back from Hallettsville Jonathon Brooks, three-star athlete Everman Juan davis, three stars Englewood (Co.) Cherry Creek tight end Gunnar Helm, three-star New Orleans (La.) Warren Easton wide receiver Casey cain, Three-star Bishop Kenny Center in Jacksonville (Florida) Michael Myslinski, three stars Houston Strake Jesuit OL Max Merril, three-star Austin High quarterback Charles wright and the Pro Kick Australia bettor Isaac pearson as the current enlist in the 2021 recruiting class of the Longhorns.
