The Texas Department of Public Safety gained attention when it accidentally issued AMBER alerts for two Child’s play characters from the movie franchise.
Missing alerts for the Texas Department of Public Safety on Friday included the murderous doll, Chucky, and her son, Glen Ray. Glen is described as having a blue shirt and a black collar while Chucky would wear “blue denim overalls with a multi-colored striped long sleeve shirt” and “wielding a huge kitchen knife”.
The local NBC affiliate learned that it was actually the result of a test gone awry. The Department of Public Security was testing its server when it accidentally made these false alerts public. Still, he assured the public that the number on the flyers is not working.
“It was actually a test that we were running on a development server and it accidentally shut down,” said Ruben Medina of DPS. “Thank you for contacting us to verify this. We apologize for the inconvenience (for) you.”
The AMBER Alert System was launched in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. This is a system to connect broadcasters to local police departments to help locate missing / abducted children. AMBER stands for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, an acronym created in memory of Amber Hagerman. Hagerman, 9, was abducted while cycling in Arlington, Texas, and murdered in 1996.
