The victim of the Texas high school shooting remains in an induced coma in the intensive care unit as he fights for his life.
Timothy Simpkins, 18, reportedly shot 15-year-old Zacchaeus Selby four times with a .45 caliber handgun in a brawl that broke out at Timberview High School in Arlington on Wednesday. Calvin Pettit, a teacher who tried to interrupt the fight, was also injured in the shooting, and another student was shot and grazed.
Simpkins surrendered after a manhunt lasting several hours. Arlington police released him Thursday after posting $ 75,000 bail. He faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, WFAA reported.
The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Timothy George Simpkins. Authorities say the shooting occurred following a fight and a total of four people were injured.

Selby’s family started a GoFundMe to raise money for medical bills and legal fees as the 15-year-old recovers from two surgeries. Selby was shot in the arm, leg, chest and stomach. He remains on a ventilator and will likely need more surgeries, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

The families of the suspect and the victim each claimed their child was the victim: the boys had argued for a while, which the school was said to have been aware of. Simpkins’ family claimed he brought the gun to school to defend himself because he was being bullied.
Kim Cole, an attorney for the Simpkins family, claimed Selby bullied and even robbed her client.

“It wasn’t someone who had left to shoot a school,” Cole told reporters. “There is a distinction between a mass shooter or a mass shooting. These people who want to hurt several people, and that is not what happened here.”
However, Selby’s family pointed out that their son was the victim.

“They claim Simpkins is the victim. My grandson is in intensive care – shot four times,” Zacchéaus Selby’s grandmother Kathy Selby told KXAS-TV. “My grandson is the victim.”
Authorities have yet to say what the fight is about.

The GoFundMe says, “This innocent 15-year-old didn’t intimidate 18-year-old Tim – nor did he deserve to be in the hospital to fight for his life.”
“Zacchaeus is a bright and respectful young man who has lit a room every time with his presence,” the post added.
