A hospital in El Paso, Texas tried to promote the Covid-19 vaccination by turning its first doses into a media event, but the publicity stunt backfired when one of the vaccinated nurses was apparently stuck with an empty syringe.
Video of Tuesday’s vaccinations of five nurses at El Paso University Medical Center showed the second nurse being pricked with a needle, but the plunger will not descend because it is already at the bottom of the syringe.

The video circulated on social media on Thursday, but rather than focus on the embarrassing blunder, some observers have suggested the posting of the images was an attack intended to diminish public confidence in the vaccines.
For example, when freelance journalist Tim Pool tweeted the video Thursday, Democratic strategist Nate Lerner said: “It’s really strange how anti-vaccine you are. You dated Alex Jones too much, man.

Another Democratic commentator also smelled an anti-vaxxer rat. “An error that probably happened because of the media attention,” he said sloppy blow. “The real question is: what are you trying to accomplish with this tweet? The hospital issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon claiming the nurse in question had been vaccinated “again” at “Remove any doubts raised that he was not fully immunized and further build confidence in the immunization process.”

The University Medical Center, the first hospital in its region to receive the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, has hinted that the scene with the seemingly empty syringe is legitimate. He said that “A new vaccination of the nurse will not cause any adverse effects.”
Twitter users scoffed at the PR error. “We must demand better quality propaganda”, said an observer.

Other observers have pointed out that the El Paso incident is just one of many videos on social media that appear to show deceptive or botched public vaccinations. One of those videos shows Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk reportedly getting a flu shot in April, but the syringe is covered with a cap.
According to a Reuters fact check of the video, however, Palaszczuk had received his photo moments earlier, and the video shows it is being recreated for photographers.
