Texas law “explicitly” gives Speaker of the House the power to arrest fugitive Democrats: Ted Cruz

A number of Texas Democrats could be arrested after fleeing the state in an attempt to block a vote on the election bill. Senator Ted Cruz, in an interview with America’s Newsroom, explained that state law gives the Speaker of the House the power to arrest fugitive House members. Cruz is convinced that Democratic lawmakers will return and that the bill will be passed.

CRENSHAW SLAMS THE “OFFENDERS” OF TEXAS DEMOCRATS WHO FURGED AT DC IN PRIVATE JET: “YOU ARE PATHETIC”

SENATOR TED CRUZ: I think it will end with the passage and passage by the Texas legislature of an electoral integrity law. What you see the Democrats doing here is a political coup. And I’ll say it’s ironic, as they got on their private jet to get to Washington, DC, they almost surely had to show some ID to get on that jet. And yet they do it in a crisis because they don’t want the mail-in ballots verified. They don’t want the signatures to be verified. They don’t want basic integrity steps to be stepped up in the state of Texas. It’s the end of the day, politics. And they have to get back to work. And one way or another, they will.

Under the Texas Constitution, there is a provision that explicitly gives the speaker the power to arrest fleeing House members. This provision is copied verbatim from the US Constitution. And so this shot will fail. They will come back. There will be a quorum. And I believe the legislature will do its job and protect the integrity of the elections. Make sure people can vote, but also make sure that we don’t have fraud, that we don’t have people voting illegally.
