As pharmaceutical giant Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine progresses toward government approval, Texas is already preparing for its distribution.
Texas State Department Health Services last week identified 20 locations where Pfizer will begin distributing its COVID-19 vaccine once it obtains approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
It comes as Pfizer chose the Lone Star state as one of the first to test its distro. Public health officials believe Texas is undoubtedly poised to do more to fight the pandemic once the vaccine becomes available.

“With the Pfizer vaccine, the plan is to pre-position sites across Texas, so that as soon as we get approval we would be able to start vaccinating relatively quickly with this federal focus,” Imelda explained. Garcia, Associate Commissioner for Laboratory Services and Infectious Diseases.
Health officials have still not publicly identified the 20 sites. To qualify, the location would have to have a health care system with over a thousand workers as well as a freezer capable of storing over a thousand doses at a time.
