Texas reports more than 1,900 new cases of coronavirus; Tarrant adds 11 deaths, 259 cases

Statewide, an additional 1,982 coronavirus cases were reported on Sunday, including 1,905 new cases and 77 older cases recently reported by labs.

The state also added 59 deaths from COVID-19, bringing its toll to 46,413.

Of the new cases, 1,677 were confirmed and 228 were probable. Of the older cases, 72 were confirmed and five were probable.

The state’s total cases now stand at 2,745,161, of which 2,366,494 are confirmed and 378,667 probable.

There are 3,446 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 690 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. As of Saturday, 4.4% of patients in the hospital region covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients – below the 15% threshold the state used to define high hospitalizations.

The statewide seven-day average positivity rate for molecular testing, based on the date the samples were collected, was 5.81% on Saturday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 3%. A molecular test, sometimes called a PCR test, is considered to be more accurate; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott said a positivity rate above 10% was concerning.

According to the state, 6,275,169 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 3,148,130 – 12.6% of the state’s population aged 16 and over – are fully vaccinated.

Dallas County

Dallas County officials are no longer reporting new coronavirus data on Sunday. Figures that would have been reported on Sunday will be released on Monday.

As of Saturday, the total number of cases in the county was 288,216 – 250,531 confirmed and 37,685 probable. The death toll was 3,384.

According to state data, 513,451 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 258,355 – 12.8% of the county’s population aged 16 and over – are fully immune.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 11 deaths and 259 cases on Sunday.

The latest victims are eight men and three women between the ages of 50 and 80.

Six victims were from Fort Worth, three from Arlington, and one from Grapevine and North Richland Hills. All of them had underlying health problems.

Of the new cases, 183 were confirmed and 76 were probable. The figures bring the county’s total number of cases to 249,007, of which 210,596 are confirmed and 38,411 probable. The death toll is 3,209.

According to the county, 226 people were hospitalized with the virus on Friday.

According to the state, 384,693 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 209,901 – 13.2% of the county’s population aged 16 and over – are fully vaccinated .

Collin County

The state added one new death and zero cases to the Collin County totals on Sunday.

No details on the last victim were available.

The county’s total number of cases is 85,550, of which 71,378 are confirmed and 14,172 probable. The death toll is 780.

According to the county, 160 people are hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 243,492 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 126,774 – 15.7% of the county’s population aged 16 and over – are fully vaccinated .

Denton County

Denton County officials are no longer reporting new coronavirus data on Sunday.

As of Friday, the county had a total of 70,885 COVID-19 cases, including 52,722 confirmed and 18,163 probable. The death toll stood at 453.

According to the state, 168,175 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 99,542 – 14.2% of the county’s population aged 16 and over – are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services have resumed reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some countries, new data may not be communicated every day. The latest numbers are:

• Rockwall County: 10,936 cases (8,952 confirmed and 1,984 probable), 143 deaths.
• Kaufman County: 15,331 cases (12,946 confirmed and 2,385 probable), 232 deaths.
• Ellis County: 21,650 cases (18,304 confirmed and 3,346 probable), 300 deaths.
• Johnson County: 19,078 cases (16,361 confirmed and 2,717 probable), 352 deaths.
