Markie Post, the actress known for filming in Night court, The right guy, Hearts on fire and over, died on Saturday after a three-year and ten-month battle with cancer. She was 70 years old.
Post Director Ellen Lubin Sanitsky confirmed her death to Deadline.
No more Deadline
Born November 4, 1950 in Palo Alto, Calif., Post got her start in entertainment working behind the scenes on game shows, including Fraction of a second, earning an associate producer credit on Alex Trebek’s Doubly dare, and appearing on camera as a card dealer on NBC Sharks Card.
His first acting credits came in 1979, with appearances in episodes of Fries, Barnabas Jones, The Incredible Hulk, Lazarus syndrome, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, and Hart to Hart.
She would later appear in series such as The boat of love, Cheers, Fantastic island and Team A, before landing the role of bail servant Terri Michaels in ABC’s The right guy. She appeared in 65 episodes of this action drama between 1982 and 1985.
Post was also a series regular on NBC Night court, portraying public defender Christine Sullivan for 159 episodes between 1985 and 1992. She also stood out as Georgie Anne Lahti Hartman in Hearts on fire, the CBS sitcom, in which she starred alongside John Ritter.
Later in his career, Post reappeared on ABC’s Scrubs, as the mother of Dr Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke), in addition to Chicago PD and other series, portraying themselves in a 2008 episode of 30 Rock.
On the film front, Post was perhaps best known for playing Cameron Diaz’s mother of Mary in the classic Peter and Bobby Farrelly comedy in 1998, There is something about Marie.
Post was determined to continue playing the role of “side job,” even if she fell ill. Between chemotherapy treatments, she worked on projects such as Lifetime Christmas movie Four Christmases and a Wedding and ABC series The children are doing well.
“But for us, our pride is in knowing who she was in addition to acting; someone who made elaborate cakes for friends, sewed curtains for the first apartments and showed us how to be kind, loving and forgiving in an often harsh world, ”her family said in a statement.
Post is survived by her husband, writer Michael A. Ross; the daughters, actress Kate Armstrong Ross and Daisy Schoenborn; his son-in-law Bryce Schoenborn and his five-month-old granddaughter and Michael’s.
Plans for a memorial are underway, although specific details as to the time and location have not yet been released.
