The American Meteor Society of Geneseo reports sightings of fireballs after residents of parts of the region reported hearing a loud explosion around 5 pm. Monday evening.

Residents of Oswego and North Onondaga counties, as well as residents of Pennsylvania, reported these sightings to the company after hearing the noise.

A fireball is another term for a big bright meteor.

Meteors are rocky or metallic objects that fall from space. However, no meteors have been reported yet.

According to the Associated Press, experts say the noise may have caused a meteor sound boom. No other source of sound has been found.
