The anti-depressant Esketamine could be approved for use in the UK

A fast-acting antidepressant derived from the party's drug, ketamine, may soon be available on the other side of the pond, a report said.

Esketamine – one of two molecules containing ketamine – is already available on prescription in the United States, in intravenous form or as a nasal spray. The Food and Drug Administration approved it in March.

European and UK health regulators will review the drug in the fall, and by next March, the National Institute for Health and Wellness Excellence is expected to announce its decision Yahoo News UK reported.

Some research has shown that esketamine can improve the condition of patients significantly – and quickly – from time to time, in a matter of days or even hours. Traditional antidepressants may take weeks before patients experience an improvement.
