The fire was reported shortly before 2 p.m. in the Gully View Drive and Rock Canyon Road area, bordering the Cahuilla Indian Reservation, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said several dozen engine and labor crews from the county and neighboring jurisdictions were dispatched to the scene and encountered flames burning north at a moderate rate amid light winds. .
Five Cal Fire water drop helicopters and five tankers were called in to perform runs on the brush, which threatened several properties as it burned down in an orchard along Ramsey Road, according to reports from the scene.
