Be careful not to put your Apple Card in a leather wallet or denim jeans.
A recently added Apple support page states that if the titanium credit card comes in contact with any of these materials, the interaction may cause "permanent discoloration that may not go away."
It could also be dangerous to store the card near coins, says Apple. Or another credit card. Or let it touch a magnetic lock on a purse or bag, abrasive objects, household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents or ammonia.
To keep the card white and smooth, Apple suggests storing it in a wallet, pocket, or bag made of "soft materials." If the card comes in contact with a substance that might stain it, it is advisable to wipe it with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, then with a microfiber cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol.
Apple has long been known for its original designs, from iMac to its new campus in Cupertino, California, which looks like a spaceship. Jony Ive, the outgoing design manager for these projects, helped shape the form to the function – turning Apple devices into a computer part, partly a fashion accessory.
The new credit card, unveiled by Apple at an event in March, is titanium and has no numbers or codes. The card uses Touch ID to reduce fraud and is backed by Goldman Sachs and Mastercard. The map has become widely available to US consumers this week.
But the Internet has undermined Apple's design instinct this week, after Apple Insider released a report on the support document, and perceived restrictions like baby birds became a topic of widespread derision on social media.
"Do not look directly at Apple Card – do not talk to Apple Card – do not denigrate Apple Card in its holy presence," wrote computer scientist Alex Stamos, a former security officer on Facebook. "When it is not used, Apple Card must be brought back into a uniformly lit white cube containing only a British man gently repeating al-lu-min-ee-um."
Some on Twitter have assumed that Apple would soon be publishing a wallet or special wallet for the card with a premium price tag.
A parodying account Ive joked that the company would offer "cardboard socks" at $ 99.
