The BMW M3 finally takes the Tesla Model 3 Performance

When the Tesla Model 3 Performance was unveiled, Elon Musk made headlines claiming it would be better in every respect than the BMW M3. He specifically targeted the M3 because it is the most famous car in the segment. Although many videos show the speed of Tesla, there have not been many direct comparison videos. Until now, at least Top Gear had recently won the 3 Performance model and the BMW M3 at the Thunderhill Raceway in California for an appropriate test.

The BMW M3 is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo I6 developing 425 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. This engine is associated with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and only powers its rear wheels. While the Tesla uses two electric motors to produce 444 hp and 471 lb-ft of torque. All these elements are sent to all four wheels, each axle having its own electric motor. Thus, the Tesla is more powerful, offers more torque and is AWD. No wonder its 0-60 mph time is 3.5 seconds, compared to that of M3 4.1.

However, the Tesla weighs a little more, rocking to 4,078 kg, while the M3 weighs 3,439. It's a huge weight difference, so on the track, the M3 should have an advantage.
