The BMW M3 finally takes the Tesla Model 3 Performance

[ad_1]

When the Tesla Model 3 Performance was unveiled, Elon Musk made headlines claiming it would be better in every respect than the BMW M3. He specifically targeted the M3 because it is the most famous car in the segment. Although many videos show the speed of Tesla, there have not been many direct comparison videos. Until now, at least Top Gear had recently won the 3 Performance model and the BMW M3 at the Thunderhill Raceway in California for an appropriate test.

In this test, the aforementioned Tesla uses a standard M3. It takes the M3 standard because it keeps the price similar between the two cars. However, the usual Bimmer does not have the firepower needed to face the toughest competition in Silicon Valley.

The BMW M3 is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo I6 developing 425 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. This engine is associated with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and only powers its rear wheels. While the Tesla uses two electric motors to produce 444 hp and 471 lb-ft of torque. All these elements are sent to all four wheels, each axle having its own electric motor. Thus, the Tesla is more powerful, offers more torque and is AWD. No wonder its 0-60 mph time is 3.5 seconds, compared to that of M3 4.1.

However, the Tesla weighs a little more, rocking to 4,078 kg, while the M3 weighs 3,439. It's a huge weight difference, so on the track, the M3 should have an advantage.

In this video, we see four tests: a quarter mile standing accelerator race, a 100 km / h braking test, a stopped lap and a drift. We will not spoil it for you, you should watch the video yourself, but it's no secret that the M3 is struggling a bit. It's a much older, less powerful car and it only has two-wheel drive, instead of four. So he is overworked from the beginning.

It will be very interesting to see how the new BMW M3 will handle the Tesla Model 3 Performance in its debut, as it will be much better equipped. The new car will reach approximately 475 hp as standard with a competition model of more than 500 hp and will also be available in all wheel drive. We can not wait to see this test too. It is likely that BMW will not be able to, because he can not be satisfied with the performance of his car here.
