Hikers have found the body of a missing woman in the Beartooth Mountains in southern Montana since early July, Carbon County officials said.

Rescuers believe Tatum Morrel, 23, was climbing Whitetail Peak on July 2 when she was caught in a major landslide and suffered fatal injuries.
The area where his body was found on Saturday had been searched several times by rescue teams. However, she was mostly buried under rocks and was difficult to see, officials said.
“After nearly two months of intensive search effort, we are relieved that she can be returned to her family,” said Deputy Chief Jon Trapp of Red Lodge Fire Rescue.
Morell was an experienced hiker and mountaineer who planned to climb five peaks near Red Lodge, just north of Yellowstone National Park.
Morell, a graduate student from Montana State University, set up camp on July 1 and contacted her mother in Ketchum, Idaho that evening using a satellite communications device. It is believed that she left her tent the next day and did not return. The research began on July 5.
Numerous search and rescue and law enforcement agencies, dog teams, helicopters, ground search teams and other means were used in an attempt to locate Morell in the rugged and rocky terrain of the Beartooth Mountains, reported CBS affiliate KTVQ.
“Finding her, especially buried in that landslide, answered many questions about why our ground crews could find her, why helicopters couldn’t find her and even why search dogs couldn’t find her. . It helps us a lot to put the pieces of the puzzle together, ”Trapp told the station.
