A Californian father who disappeared Saturday during an 8-mile run in a regional park in sweltering weather is either “unfit” or no longer in the area, authorities said.

Philip Kreycik, 37, parked his car in the Moller Trail staging area at Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park around 11 a.m. before disappearing, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said. Temperatures reached 106 degrees that day. The park is located outside of the town of Pleasanton in the East Bay area.

Hundreds of volunteers and professional rescuers joined in the search after Kreycik’s family reported her missing on Saturday afternoon. The agencies deployed search dogs, drones, helicopters and an aircraft with advanced thermal imaging.

But after four days, there is still no sign of the missing runner, whose cell phone and ID were found inside his parked vehicle. Authorities have announced that the massive search will be curtailed.

“We came to two conclusions: either he is unable to be in the search area and we cannot find him; or he is not here and he is somewhere else that we do not know,” said the sergeant. . Ray Kelly said during a press briefing Tuesday.

Police described Kreycik, a father of two, as “an endurance athlete” who is in excellent physical condition and “thrives in extreme environments”. Friends told KGO-TV that Kreycik had no known health problems.

“We are saddened that our efforts so far have yet to locate him,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We remain hopeful, but the lack of results is frustrating for all of us on this mission.”

Kreycik is an energy efficiency analyst for Pacific Gas and Electric, the utility confirmed to The Associated Press. He is a Harvard and MIT graduate and runs ultramarathons, police told KGO-TV.

Authorities have asked anyone with information about Kreycik’s disappearance to call the Pleasanton Police Department.
