The center rolls against the Scots, 40-19

MARYVILLE, Tennessee (Athletics Center) – Center football hit the road for the first time this season, beating Maryville by a score of 40-21 at Honaker Field.

The Colonels (2-0) outscored the Scots (0-2) on the first kick, resulting in almost two-thirds of possession and a huge advantage in total yards gained.

STRONG POINTS
–The center controlled the battle for position on the field in the first half, led by a defense that saw Maryville cross the 50-yard line just once in her first six practices. Of these six trips, only three resulted in positive footage.
– This allowed the colonels’ offensive to work with a short field most of the time. Trentin Dupper and Co. capitalized, scoring touchdowns in three straight practices to take the lead to 20-0 in the first quarter. He connected with Cort marbaugh, Christian Billiter and Riley Room for touchdown passes.
– The Scots finally managed to score at the end of the second quarter, leading to a 20-7 margin at halftime. Maryville only managed four first downs and got a 0 for 6 on third down conversions in the first half.
–The center scored on its first four possessions in the third quarter to put any comeback offers out of reach.
– Patrick edwards and Will mcdaniel each delivered rushed touchdowns, while Cam Tegge connected a pair of field goals from 22 yards.

SCORE INSIDE THE BOX
– The statistical dominance of the Center was evident. The guests finished with total advantages in opening downs (24-9), rushing yards (180-3), total yards (423-251) and possession time (38:22 to 21:38 ).
– Defensively, the colonels limited the Scots to three rushing yards in 21 attempts. This is the fewest rushing yards allowed since forcing -1 rushing yards against Rhodes on November 12, 2011.
– Armon Wells and Cole arendsen each had five tackles and 2.5 tackles for the loss. Keanan john recorded two QB rushes and a 19-yard interception, while Joshua White had a salvage escape.
– Dupper finished 21 of 32 for 241 yards and three touchdowns, adding 71 yards on 14 rushing attempts.
– Eleven different colonels caught at least one pass. Marbaugh led the team with five catches as Jordan gunter surveyed the unit with 78 yards.
– The cross was 12 of 22 on third down conversions and 4 of 4 on fourth down conversions – one of which was good for a touchdown. The colonels also scored on the six red zone chances.

FOLLOWING
The center is on recess next Saturday and returns to action on the family weekend with a September 25 meeting against Trine. Kick-off from Farris Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
