The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to strengthening the Coast Guard community and service by supporting members and families, announced that it had awarded 158 scholarships in 2021 for a total amount of 345 $ 500. Hayley Phillips, child of Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Craig Phillips, of Groton, received a Coast Guard Foundation scholarship. She is currently attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Cristina Breneman, child of retired Coast Guard veteran Joseph Breneman Jr. of Voluntown, is attending the University of Vermont this fall.

Bryson and Hayden Doughty, children of retired New London Coast Guard veteran Heather Doughty, are attending the University of Nevada in Las Vegas and Simmons University respectively this fall.

The Coast Guard Foundation scholarships benefit the children of enlisted men and women who serve or have served in the United States Coast Guard, whether on active duty, reserve, retired, or deceased.
