The Day – Mitchell College Welcomes New Vice President of Academic Affairs

New London – Mitchell College announced that it has recently welcomed Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Beaulieu as Vice President of Academic Affairs.

In this role, she will oversee all academic areas including the Thames at Mitchell College program, the Bentsen Learning Center and the Mystic program.

Beaulieu was previously Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at New Haven University, and prior to that he was the founding dean of the main division of Champlain College in Vermont and director of women’s studies at the Appalachian State University in North Carolina.

Beaulieu holds a doctorate. in 20th Century British and American Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, MAs from York University in England and Georgetown University, and BA from Providence College. Her research focuses on contemporary African-American writers.

“It is important for me to serve an institution committed to academic excellence, innovative pedagogy and strong student engagement,” Beaulieu said in a statement. “Mitchell College has a strong foundation in all three, and I look forward to finding ways to collaborate, innovate and inspire.”

Mitchell College President Tracy Espy said Beaulieu’s experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and developing new programs aligns perfectly with the school’s educational model and that his leadership will be invaluable as Mitchell is building new fields of study.
