The Day – Stonington to begin reassessment process this fall

Stonington – The town will begin reassessing all of the town’s properties this fall.

The city has again hired Vision Government Solutions, which has performed previous reassessments here, to complete the residential reassessment and Lawrence Revaluation Services to do the business reassessment work.

The reassessment will establish the market value of each property as of October 1, 2022 and will be reflected in the tax bills issued in July 2023. Notices of new appraisals will be mailed to owners in the fall of 2022. Residents can also meet with staff at re-evaluation to consider new proposed evaluations and may also appeal evaluations.

The project will begin this fall with data shipments sent to each owner for review and feedback. Data collectors will inspect properties with building permits or properties that have recently been sold. Data collectors will be provided with an identification letter from the assessor’s office, a photo ID badge and have their cars registered with the police. Owners can contact the Assessment Department at (860) 535-5098 for further confirmation from the data collectors.

The city is asking all landlords and tenants to cooperate with data collectors to ensure that accurate information is used in the reassessment process. Updates on the reassessment process will be issued throughout the year at www.stonington-ct.gov
