The death of an inmate has decided to commit suicide, confirms the coroner of Cuyahoga County

CLEVELAND – The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner confirmed that the inmate who was found dead inside Cuyahoga County Jail committed suicide by hanging on Friday.

A county official confirmed Nicholas Colbert, a 36-year-old veteran, died Friday afternoon.

Friday morning, the transfer of Colbert to the basket of the veteran, intended for people who served in the armed forces, was approved. It was transferred at 11 am, said Madigan.

At 2:28 pm Friday, a correctional officer found that Colbert was not answering in his cell, said Madigan. EMS was called and Colbert was taken to MetroHealth. The county was notified at 3:05 pm that Colbert was dead.

In total, eight inmates of county jails died in 2018.
