FREMONT, California – It can be difficult to hear that a loved one is dying. But a Californian woman is upset by a hospital where she learned that her grandfather was dying from a doctor on a video screen.
Annalisia Wilharm was at her grandfather's bedside at the Kaiser-Permanente Medical Center in Fremont when the machine swung into their room and a doctor, appearing via live video link, offered his prognosis.
FASHION NOW:
Wilharm says receiving news from a screen was horrible for her and her grandfather. She also said that the hospital should have had more dignity and compassion.
Ernest Quintana, 78, died the next day.
A spokesman said the hospital regretted not having met the expectations of the family.
The hospital also said that a doctor had spoken to them in person earlier in the day and had pointed out that the device was not really a robot.
