The Food and Drug Administration is further expanding its recall of widely prescribed antihypertensive medications due to contamination by a cancer-related chemical.

Monday's announcement targets five other batches of the losartan generic drug manufactured by Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited. The batches include losartan potassium tablets and losartan potassium / hydrochlorothiazide tablets.

The recalled batches contain traces of N-methylnitrosobutyric acid, or NMBA, which have been linked to cancer.

This is the fifth time in 2019 that Torrent Pharmaceuticals is expanding its voluntary recall of losartan. The recall was announced for the first time in January.
