The first case of state measles in 2019 has been confirmed in northeastern Oklahoma, health officials said. The Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Okmulgee County Health Department are investigating a confirmed case of measles. The case is the first of the state since May 2018, officials said. Measles has been identified in a person who has returned to Oklahoma after traveling to various locations across the country and abroad. Health officials said the virus was still prevalent in several parts of the world, with outbreaks reported in Europe, Israel, Ukraine and the Philippines. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, from January 1 to May 10, 2019, 839 individual cases of measles were confirmed in 23 states. This is the highest number of cases reported in the United States since 1994 and since measles was declared eliminated in 2000, said CDC officials.
