There are even more cases of COVID-19 aboard this first cruise ship to venture into the Caribbean since March.

Five people aboard the SeaDream 1 cruise ship have tested positive for the coronavirus, the ship’s captain told passengers, CNN reported Thursday evening.

News of the first passenger to contract the virus was announced on Wednesday.

The ship is the first to resume sailing in the Caribbean since last spring, when the pandemic turned several cruise lines into floating quarantine zones infested with COVID-19.

There are 53 passengers and 66 crew on board.

SeaDream has not confirmed the number of people who have tested positive for the virus; a passenger told CNN that the captain revealed in an ad that 5 were infected.

“SeaDream I has halted its current Caribbean trip and returned to Barbados after customer testing for COVID-19 returned suspected positive results,” the company said in a press release.

All guests and non-essential crew are in quarantine in their cabins and the ship is docked off Barbados, the statement said.

“SeaDream is awaiting clearance from the government of Barbados to disembark guests safely,” the statement said.

No crew member tested positive; all guests were tested twice before boarding and are being retested, the statement said.
