The Indian Chandrayaan-2 mission seeks to place an orbiter, a lander and a rover on the lunar surface.

India's mission for her second visit to the Moon with Chandrayaan-2 suffered a setback. During a routine fall test, the engineering model of the "lunar lander" Vikram "was damaged a few weeks ago. However, the main components of the spacecraft are safe and are being tested, NDV chief Dr K Sivan told NDTV.

"The Lander & Vikram's flight model is safe and Chandrayaan-2 will be launched at a timely window in the coming months. The main components of Chandrayaan-2 that will fly to the moon are safe and are tested further, "he said.

Normally, the space agency conducts tests on a technical model, said Dr. Sivan, adding that the engineers had wrongly configured a drop test that damaged the legs of the equipment.

The Indian Mission Chandrayaan-2 of 800 million rupees is seeking to place an orbiter, an undercarriage and a rover on the lunar surface using the MK III geosynchronous satellite satellite launcher. The mission suffered delays when the rocket was changed from GSLV MK II to MK III, when the Russian collaboration collapsed.

India launched Chandrayaan-1 in 2008 and the mission revealed the presence of water molecules on the moon.

Only the United States, Russia and China have successfully landed on the moon. On April 11, Israel hopes to land softly on the moon thanks to the first private spaceship. India lands hard on the lunar surface as part of Chandrayaan-1.
