Former Virginia Tech quarterback Josh Jackson announced Monday night on Twitter that his next stop would be Maryland.

Jackson plans to be transferred after graduating this spring, which would allow him to play for the Terrapins in 2019.

The arrival of Jackson gives Maryland an increased level of experience and passability as freshman Mike Locksley begins preparing for his attack at College Park. Jackson should be a favorite in the competition to win the starting quarterback position.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound son, a former college coach, had 2,991 yards and 20 touchdowns in his first year with the Hokies in 2017. He broke the fibula in September 2018 and announced his intention to leave Blacksburg after the season.

Jackson's best competition for the starting position will likely be junior redshirt Tyrrell Pigrome, who started the last two games of the 2018 season with the Terps. Pigrome replaced Kasim Hill, who had his second ACL torn last November. Hill should not play in 2019 and has registered his name on the transfer portal because he weighs his options for the future.

Jackson is part of a long list of former Virginia Tech players who were transferred after the 2018 season. Teammate Hokie Sean Savoy, a wide receiver, also landed in Maryland.
