(WDBJ7) – Observers will be able to catch a blue moon on Friday, this one is not your typical blue moon, it's a seasonal blue Moon.

The full moon of May is known as the "full moon flower". It takes its name because the flowers are the most abundant during this period.

Seasonal blue moons are said to occur every two or three years.

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the Blue Moon will reach its peak this Friday, May 18th at 17:11. (EDT).

If you've been following the pace of the celestial bodies this year, you've witnessed everything from January 'Super Blood Wolf Moon' to 'Full Pink Moon'.

The next event to watch is the "Full Strawberry Moon", which will take place on June 17th.

Another seasonal blue moon will not occur until two years on August 22, 2021.
