OGDEN – City Council members have yet to make a decision on the future of the Marshall White Center. The city plans to set aside $ 1 million per year for five years to improve the recreation center in downtown Ogden.
According to Ronald White, head of Marshall White’s advisory committee, board members would like more feedback from the community. There is a debate on upgrading the existing building or demolishing it and building a new, larger facility.
Angel Castillo of the Ogden Chapter of the NAACP is pushing for a new center. She suspects that a new building could cost up to $ 30 million. Ogden City communications director Mike McBride said a consultant presented three different renderings to city council and none were ultimately selected.
“I don’t think they did a deep enough exploration,” McBride said. A joint working session of Ogden City Council is scheduled for November 9 for MWC.
