Felipe Vázquez, a pitcher of the Pittsburgh Pirates, was arrested on Tuesday for a series of charges, including sexual assault on a child. He faces criminal acts in Pennsylvania and Florida, reports ESPN. Vázquez was denied bail on an indictment in Pittsburgh. The charges against Felony include solicitation of a child for illegal sexual behavior through the use of computer services or devices, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors. He also faces a crime of indecent assault of a person under 16 years of age. The Major League Baseball immediately put Vázquez on administrative leave, and the Pirates issued a statement in which they declared that they were taking the charges "very seriously" and that they would not comment otherwise.
The investigation began in Florida last month after the rumor that Vázquez, a 28-year-old Venezuelan, reportedly had sex with a 13-year-old girl, according to CNN. Agencies in Florida and Pennsylvania said police searched his apartment in Pittsburgh and took several electronic devices. The Pirates, who will need $ 5.25 million in Vázquez for the 2020 season and $ 7.25 million for 2021, may be trying to cancel the close deal. These efforts do not always succeed, however, even if criminal behavior is involved. A hearing is scheduled for September 25 to decide on extradition to Florida by KDKA.
